FKG Group engaged McHugh Steel to supply and install structural steel frames and roof trusses for Palm View State Primary School, located in the heart of the Sunshine Coast region near Brisbane.

This project forms part of a broader Queensland Government initiative to expand education infrastructure in high-growth areas. Specifically, the new Palm View education precinct includes a primary school, special school, and secondary college—all designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing local community.

In 2021, Palm View State Primary School officially opened and is situated in Palmview, a fast-growing suburb between Caloundra and Maroochydore. The school boasts modern, purpose-built learning spaces that support both general education and specialist programs.

The campus includes flexible classrooms, collaborative learning zones, a resource centre, administration buildings, and outdoor play and sporting areas. Designed to accommodate future enrolment growth, the campus focuses on inclusivity, sustainability, and advanced digital learning environments.

McHugh Steel’s Role

McHugh Steel was contracted to deliver a full-service structural steel package, which included:

  • Manufacture and supply of steel wall frames and roof trusses

  • Over 150 tonnes of steel supplied

  • 25 semi-truck loads delivered to the site

  • Installation of all steel components in coordination with FKG Group’s build timeline

We fabricated all steel components in our Bundaberg facility and delivered them in staged loads to align with key construction milestones.

To ensure timely delivery, we timed each of the 25 truckloads for just-in-time delivery, reducing on-site congestion and keeping the project flowing smoothly. Furthermore, our logistics and installation teams collaborated closely with FKG to complete each phase on schedule.

Our crew installed the steel framing and trusses quickly and precisely, maintaining high safety and structural standards.

Outcome

McHugh Steel’s contribution to the Palm View State Primary School project highlights our ability to handle large-scale educational builds. We delivered and installed over 150 tonnes of steel, contributing to Queensland’s vital education infrastructure.

This project showcases our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality steel solutions for government and commercial builds across the state.
